Delayed Rant: The Second Presidential Debate
Guest Commentator here… Like many other Americans, I watched the debate last night. Don’t ask me why, but I did. The thing that struck me repeatedly during the whole thing was that McCain can’t seem to move the needle out of the rut in the record he’s fallen in to. Let me elaborate… Over and over again he made reference to to Senator Obama still not being able to “admit that the surge (in Irag) worked”. Well, I watched the first debate and Obama must have said, at least 20 times, “I agree” (the surge worked), whenever McCain brought it up, which was frequently. Obama is on record stating that the surge worked “beyond our wildest dreams.” What part of that does McCain not get? At one point, McCain pointed at Obama and referred to him as “that one”. What!!!??? How very “un” presidential of you, Mr. McCain! I was appalled at how “greasy” McCain was when interacting with the audience last night. He just seemed so condescending and out of touch with reality. Not one reference to the “middle class”, not one suggestion of a possible fix to the mess we are in right now, basically more of the same crap. So, I decided that I wanted to examine the validity of the comments both candidates were making about one another and I found that the majority of things that McCain (and the uber intelligenta he’s picked as his running mate) has said about Obama are patently false. Whereas, Obama has only made a couple of statements that deviate from the “whole” truth. I read the comments people made about both candidates and felt a little queasy when I read the glowing comments about Mr. McCain. I kinda felt like I was at a KKK Rally in the Deep South. Our country is in the middle of a shit storm right now and although I don’t think there are any quick and easy fixes, I know that I, personally, would feel better knowing that the person at the top at least tries to make me feel like I matter. And at least makes an effort to tell the truth, even if it is a truth I don’t necessarily want to hear. More on this later as I mull further…
