No Lame Duck Presidency for You, Mr. Bush
September 30, 2008.
Rant by Me: The Bailout has Forced Bush to Act.
There is nothing better than watching Bush and his crony, Paulsen, flop around on T.V. begging for congress to pass this half-cocked bailout bill. The irony is it is his own party which seems to not be on board with the plan as it stands. Word on the street is the conservative republicans balked for two reasons; 1) ideologically this plan equals regulation by government, which makes conservative republicans vomit aimlessly without warning. 2) Constituents called in droves opposing the bailout plan, so much so many congressmen likely knew this would doom their chances of re-election had they voted in favor of the bailout bill.
There was also a media blitz over a side story in which it was said up to 12 republicans who planned on voting in favor of the bill changed their minds at the last minute. Why? It was said a speech by Nancy Pelosi was a shot to the face of conservative republican ideals and this partisanship sealed the no vote out of spite for her comments. I sincerely hope this is not true, but for some gut reason I believe it. Hell, I saw some crazy-eyed republican claiming Pelosi was central to the defection of some conservative republicans (sorry, cant recall the congeressmans name).
A few days into this debacle and I must say, I am leaning toward just letting the economy ride. Tell you why; I already have maxed credit with banks which are not in danger of collapsing - because they practice sound investment policy. I am no where near retirement age and dont plan on pulling my 401K out anytime soon. I have a good 30-year fixed mortgage and I am not in danger of foreclosure. So, why would I want to save the lenders and investment banks which preyed on taxpayers other than me? I dont. I say let the taxpayers who got into the bad deals foot the bill, or let them rent. I have a couple properties open. Also, let the fraudsters who backed these “free-market” scams wallow in their own shit for awhile.
And then there is our friend, President Bush. Is there anything better than watching him on T.V. umpteen times a day trying to instill fear into Americans, attempting to get them to force their congressmen to vote on the bailout bill? Bush thought he would sail away into the sunset; a lame duck president with really lame ideas and absolutely no leadership skills. The Bush legacy is being written into history and he can’t even count on his tride and true conservative republican buddies to bail him out of this mess. I really hope the democrats don’t do it for him.
