Article by David Gergen at CNN: Obama: In Need of a Game Changer

This article was an interesting read. Although I am not sure Obama is in need of a game changer. I believe the American people are in need of a wake up call and apparently two wars, a recession, and an inept president just isn’t cutting it. I feel we can safely call the overall American attitude toward reality, “Passive-Aggressive Apathy” with a smattering of mental retardation. Come on people, educate yourselves. Stop making assumptions based upon something you heard from your neighbor or misinformed friend. Think about the issues which affect you most, then pop over to each candidates website and read about how they address these issues. Don’t believe the rhetoric, find out for yourself!

One thing I do like is the idea of Obama naming his cabinet prior to the election. I think McCain should do it too. I have always thought this to be a move wasted in past elections and it really could help a candidate solidify their position. Although I feel it is less likely McCain would use this tactic as he already has the upper hand in the experience column and a move like this might actually hurt him. Especially when we consider the old fellow is likely to choose party insiders. Plus, he will need to contact his potential cabinet members by telephone because he doesn’t carry a cell phone and NEVER uses email. Wait a minute, who is out of touch?

So, onward to a couple of brilliantly thought out comments. Let’s start with Mark Hudson.

Mark says: “Gergen is so right when he says many of Hillary’s supporters are not on board with Obama. We do not like him and will not support him under any circumstances. Most of us cite his inexperience, his arrogance, and most of all his shadowy past. McCain08; Hillary 2012!!”

I say: Mark, my friend, Mr. Gergen didn’t actually say “many” supporters, he said a “quarter” of Hillary’s supporters are not on board. That’s a big difference – well, let’s see; 21% based on the poll, with a claim of 18 million supporters, equals roughly 3.8 million. Ok, I guess that’s many, in some circles. But then for you to speak for all of Hillary’s supporters is a bit out of place. You are also assuming the “quarter” of supporters don’t like Obama. It could actually be more than a quarter, I honestly don’t know. However, I would argue most of the quarter of Hillary supporters Mr. Gergen references probably don’t even know who he is. Most probably don’t even know where he stands on issues important to them – which ironically, are right in line with Hillary. Come November, a vote against Obama is vote against Hillary.

And a retort for Jason from Texas.

Jason says: I can’t fathom why anyone is voting for McCain given the current state of the nation. I am totally amazed that people are still fooled.”

I say: Jason, you can’t fool someone who doesn’t get it. They are just idiots. However, I don’t think McCain is anything like Bush. The state of our nation is mostly due to the failings of Bush – who, of course, thinks he is doing a fine job. McCain is a veteran. Bush dodged the war. McCain cares, to a degree, about the environment. Bush, in eight years, did absolutely nothing to address global warming. Do they differ on anything else?… Ok, I guess they are the same on everything else…but McCain is smarter than Bush. I hope. Really though, McCain would not have fucked up this country as badly as Bush has, had he been president for the past eight years.

Last, but not least, for Dr. Mac.

Dr. Mac says: Has the nation forgotten about the Cone of Silence Lie? So called Christians who will use these tactics…winning by any means necessary really frighten me. If he wins, those that did not vote for him, well we would just have to get ready for pay back time. I hear you just don’t cross John McCain. But you know what…his arms are too short to box with God. Thank you God, for letting me hide under the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91).”

I say: Fuck me, Vote Huckabee!
